Sean McWeeney joined the Firm as a Partner in 1986. Sean is widely recognized as one of the leading trust attorneys in the Bahamas. Sean has many years of experience in developing customized wealth planning strategies for the Firm's private clients. Sean is also sought after for his expertise in mergers & acquisitions, banking, corporate and commercial matters.

Transactions on which he has recently worked include:

  • Merger of the two largest liquor conglomerates in The Bahamas.
  • Sale of major hotel resorts in Nassau and Freeport.
  • Representing major trust companies in relation to complex international trust structures.
  • Representing one of the world's largest international sporting bodies in its corporate and trust structuring in The Bahamas.
  • Representing the Purchaser of a controlling interest in the sole Cable Television service in The Bahamas.
  • Representing a major North American telecoms company in relation to proposed cellular service in The Bahamas.

Sean McWeeney was admitted to The Bahamas Bar in 1978. He served as the Attorney General of The Bahamas from 1989 to 1992, during which time he was also called to serve as Acting Minister of Foreign Affairs on numerous occasions. Sean was a member of The Bahamas Senate from 1985 to 1992, including the Government Leader in the Senate in 1992.

Sean's public service contributions further include acting as Chairman of the Implementation Committee for the Restructuring of The Royal Bahamas Police Force, and Chairman of the Judicial Review Remuneration Commission . In 1999, Sean was awarded the Independence Silver Jubilee Medal for Distinguished Achievement in Law by The Bahamas Government. In May 2002, following General Elections, Sean was appointed by the new Prime Minister to head the Transition Team and to advise on important matters of National Policy.

Sean authored the monograph "Creditor Protection Trusts Under Bahamian Law" in 1992.
