Public Service

The firm’s tradition of public service started with Peter D. Graham CMG, the firm’s founding partner. Peter served as a Member of Parliament from 1956 to 1972, including three years as Minister of Labour and Housing. That tradition of service continues today with members of the Graham Thompson team being widely sought within The Bahamas and internationally for their talents, advice and ability to solve problems.

Several of our partners are individually active in the political landscape of The Bahamas, having served in Parliament, the Senate and in the Cabinet. A number of our partners have served on public boards including those of the Central Bank of The Bahamas, the Gaming Board of The Bahamas, the Water and Sewerage Corporation, the Industrial Relations Board, the Broadcasting Corporation of The Bahamas, the National Security Council of The Bahamas, the commission appointed to oversee the re-structuring of the Royal Bahamas Police Force, the Clifton Heritage Authority, the College of The Bahamas, the Licensing Authority for Freeport, Grand Bahama, the Society of Trust and Estate Practitioners (STEP), Bahamas Agricultural & Industrial Corporation, the Grand Bahama Island Tourism Promotion Board, and the private sector supported Bahamas Financial Services Board. Many of our partners also hold directorships at leading local and international banks, insurance companies, and other large commercial enterprises.

Our attorneys are also active in the legal profession and judicial system of The Bahamas. Three of our partners have served as Attorneys General of The Bahamas. Three members of the firm have sat as Acting Justices of the Supreme Court of The Bahamas and one member as Acting Assistant Registrar General of The Bahamas and Acting Deputy Registrar of the Supreme Court. In 2008, Claire L. Hepburn, a senior litigator in the firm, was appointed as a Supreme Court Judge and in August 2009, Michael L. Barnett who led our litigation department for 25 years was appointed the Chief Justice of the Commonwealth of Bahamas.
