
Sean McWeeney was called to the Bahamas Bar in March 1978 and joined the firm as a partner in 1986. Sean is widely recognized as one of the leading trust attorneys in the Bahamas. He has many years of experience in developing customized wealth planning strategies for the firm's private clients (including many high net worth families) and for major multinational organizations. Sean is also sought after for his expertise in mergers & acquisitions, and in high-end corporate and commercial work.
Sean is a former Attorney General of The Bahamas having served in that Cabinet post from January 1989 to August 1992. He also served as a Senator from 1985 to 1992 and as Leader of the Government in the Senate during the latter part of his parliamentary tenure.
In April 2000 and again in 2004, Sean was appointed Chairman of the Judicial Review Commission to recommend changes in the structure of remuneration and pensions for judges. Between 1999 and 2002, Sean was appointed Chairman of the Steering and Implementation Committees responsible for overseeing the re-structuring of the Royal Bahamas Police Force and the introduction of reforms to law enforcement in The Bahamas. He has also served as a member of the National Security Council and Chairman of the Clifton Heritage Authority.
Sean is a former Vice-President of The Bahamas Bar Association and Vice-Chairman of the Bahamas Bar Council. He is a director of both a leading local and international banks. He is also the author of the monograph “Creditor Protection Trusts Under Bahamian Law”. In October 2009 Sean was appointed Queen’s Counsel.
